"The challenge of rapid climate change is forcing us to rethink traditional attitudes to nature. This book is the first study to chart these changing attitudes in 21st-century British fiction. Climate Crisis and the 21st-Century British Novel examines twelve works that reflect growing cultural awareness of climate crisis and participate in the reshaping of the stories that surround it. Central to this renegotiation are four narratives: environmental collapse, pastoral, urban and polar. Bringing ecocriticism into dialogue with narratology and a new body of contemporary writing, Astrid Bracke explores a wide range of texts, from Zadie Smith's NW through Sarah Hall's The Carhullan Army and David Mitchell's Cloud Atlas to the work of a new generation of novelists such as Melissa Harrison and Ross Raisin. As the book shows, post-millennial fictions provide the imaginative space in which to rethink the stories we tell about ourselves and the natural world in a time of crisis."--Bloomsbury Publishing.

"This study analyzes the impact of the Czechoslovak crisis of 1968 - the Prague Spring the Soviet led invasion of the country in August of that year and the subsequent process of re-alignment and "normalization"--The two most influential communist parties of Western Europe - the Italian PCI and the French PCF." "It links these events to the broader issues that these parties were facing: the question of revolution or reform, the legacy of Stalinism, and the contradictions of Soviet-aligned "internationalism." These key problems were situated in different contexts: the rise of East-West detente, crisis and division in the Soviet-aligned communist world, and the rapid modernization of West European societies and economies." "This work sheds new light on a crucial phase in the history of the West European Left, and particularly on the complex ways in which Cold War developments impacted on it. The research is based on the study of large archive collections, particularly the internal records of various European communist parties."--Jacket

In these times of the intensified transnational flows of feminist knowledges, translation has become central to the cross-border travels of feminist theories and practices. This innovative multidisciplinary book gathers a rich range of essays from diverse epistemological formations to explore the many ways translation actively participates in building feminist agendas in “transnational, translingual and transcultural encounters,” while always sensitive to a “politics of location.” The anthology makes a much-needed contribution and will surely become required reading for those engaged in the burgeoning field of transnational feminism and translation studies. Claudia J de Lima Costa, Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Brazil This edited book addresses the diversity across time and space of the sites, actors and practices of feminist translation from 1945-2000. The contributors examine what happens when a politically motivated text is translated linguistically and culturally, the translators and their aims, and the strategies employed when adapting texts to locally resonating discourses. The collection aims to answer these questions through case studies and a conceptual rethinking of the process of politically engaged translation, considering not only trained translators and publishers, but also feminist activists and groups, NGOs and writers. The book will be of interest to students and researchers in the fields of translation studies, gender/women's studies, literature and feminist history.

"This is the first book to provide a practical toolkit, grounded in both current educational practice and pedagogical research, on teaching Latin and ancient Greek at primary school with the aim of empowering primary school children who do not traditionally get access to Classics in education. Taking the author's decade of experience in coordinating primary school-level Classics projects in the UK and Belgium as a starting point, this book investigates how we can move towards educational equity by teaching primary school students Latin or ancient Greek. Following an introduction to educational inequity and the role of Classics in this, readers encounter four aspects of teaching Classics at primary school which, together, improve educational equity: widening participation, transformative learning, translanguaging, and community engagement. Through reflections on the author's personal experiences, practical steps are set out in each chapter to demonstrate how these ancient languages may be taught at primary school in ways that are accessible for every pupil. Each chapter ends with a series of reflection questions to help readers consider future practices. Classics at Primary School: A Tool for Social Justice is designed for all those engaged or interested in teaching Latin or ancient Greek at primary school. Both the practical and theoretical components of this book appeal to teachers as well as researchers and policy makers with a background in education and/or Classics"--
